On-Chain Membership & Rewards

Equal-cut tokenomics, on-chain memberships, awards, and NFTs when grants pay out.

On-Chain Membership & Rewards

Genesis Africa is a Web3 collective, so membership and rewards live on-chain. When we win grants or hackathon prizes, we distribute value back to members through transparent, verifiable mechanisms.

What we issue on-chain

Memberships

When you join and are accepted, you can receive an on-chain membership tied to your wallet. This is not just a badge: it connects you to governance participation, project eligibility, and future reward distributions.

Membership reflects:

  • Your country group
  • Your role (Writer, Developer, Promo / KOL)
  • Your standing as an active member of the collective

Wallet connection and minting details are shared during onboarding in Discord after you apply.

Awards

We give on-chain awards to members who contribute to collective outcomes: shipping products, publishing original work, running campaigns, or leading country-level initiatives.

Awards can take the form of:

  • NFT credentials for specific achievements
  • Token allocations from a project reward pool
  • Both, depending on the project and grant terms

Awards are decided through the same member governance process described in Governance & DAO. No single person decides who gets rewarded.

Tokenomics

Our default rule is simple: every eligible member gets the same cut. No favouritism, no seniority multiplier, no hidden weighting. If you qualify for a payout pool, your share equals everyone else's in that pool.

How a payout is split

When grant, hackathon, or sponsor funds arrive, members vote on the high-level split. A typical structure:

BucketPurposeExample share
Member poolDistributed equally to eligible members80%
Collective treasuryFuture grants, ops, and shared tooling15%
On-chain fees & gasMinting, claims, and distribution costs5%

Exact percentages are voted on per payout in Governance. The member pool always uses equal division.

Equal cut formula

Each member's allocation = Member pool ÷ Number of eligible members

Example: a $10,000 grant pays out with 80% to the member pool.

  • Member pool: $8,000
  • Eligible members: 40
  • Each member receives $200 (on-chain as tokens or stablecoins, depending on the grant)

Every eligible wallet gets the same amount. One member, one equal cut.

Who is eligible

For a given payout, eligible members are those who:

  • Were part of the approved project squad when the grant was submitted or won
  • Hold an active on-chain membership tied to their wallet
  • Met the participation minimum set by the governance vote (e.g. showed up to build sessions, shipped work, or contributed content for that project)

If governance opens a payout to the wider collective (not just one squad), every active member in scope gets the same equal cut from that pool.

Leadership roles (Chairperson, ICE) do not receive a larger token share. They already have weighted say in project votes, not in payout size.

Supply and distribution model

ElementHow it works
Membership NFTOne per member. Proves you belong and unlocks payout eligibility.
Reward tokensMinted or allocated from grant proceeds. Split equally among eligible wallets.
Award NFTsOptional recognition for milestones. Separate from the equal token cut.
TreasuryHolds collective reserves for the next build, grant application, or shared infra.

We do not pre-mint a massive token supply for speculation. Tokens enter circulation when real grants pay out, and members receive them through the equal-cut model above.

Worked example: hackathon prize

A squad of 12 members wins a $6,000 hackathon prize. Governance approves:

  • 85% member pool → $5,100
  • 10% treasury → $600
  • 5% fees → $300

Each of the 12 members receives $425 on-chain. Same amount, same rules.

Genesis Africa does not guarantee token value, future payouts, or grant wins. Equal cuts only apply when funds are received and approved for distribution by member vote.

Grant payouts

When a grant, hackathon prize, or partnership payout lands, we do not split funds informally. The collective follows a clear flow:

Funds arrive

Grant, hackathon, or sponsor payout is received by the collective treasury or designated multisig.

Members vote on the split

The collective confirms the member pool, treasury share, and who counts as eligible. See Governance.

Equal on-chain distribution

The member pool is divided equally. Each eligible wallet receives the same token allocation. NFT awards are minted separately where applicable.

Recorded and transparent

Every allocation is traceable on-chain. Members can verify who received what and why.

NFTs

NFTs serve as on-chain records of membership, awards, and milestones. They can represent:

  • Genesis Africa membership credentials
  • Project completion awards (e.g. a shipped hackathon build)
  • Role or country recognition
  • Long-term contributor milestones

NFTs are not hype drops. They mark real work tied to real collective output.
